Consumers Willing to Pay More for Eco-Friendly Packaging

For the last twenty years, the importance for companies to champion sustainability and be environmentally friendly has grown massively. Now, customers expect products housed in packaging with a low ecological impact – and are willing to pay more for it.

Three quarters (74%) of consumers are now willing to pay more for sustainable packaging, with one-quarter (25%) stating they are willing to pay an additional 10% or more for environmentally friendly packaging. In this study, conducted by the Boston Consulting Group, two-thirds of those surveyed also stated that ‘environmentally friendly, sustainable packaging’ was important to them.

Not only will eco-friendly packaging attract more customers, but one of the greatest benefits to your business is that it will decrease your carbon footprint. The manufacturing processes of materials that are biodegradable, recyclable and reusable are more efficient than those which are not. This means that the volumes of carbon dioxide and methane emissions and energy used during production processes are greatly reduced. Metal packaging also has the ability and flexibility to be recycled, reused and reduced leading to a totally sustainable product.
